Electronically Retrieving Audio Unit Serial Numbers
This process will work on MOST Honda and Acura models from 2002 to current except vehicles with navigation systems. On all units with navigation call your Service Advisor for assistance.
If an audio unit with theft protection is disconnected from electrical power, you must enter a unique code number into the unit or it doesn't work. This code and the audio unit's serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. If this card is lost, you must get the code number from your Honda/Acura dealership. In order to do that, you need to get the audio unit serial number. Some Honda models let you do that electronically. Here's how:
All Honda models with electronically retrievable audio unit serial numbers* (except with navigation system)
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). (Accessory power with engine off.)
Turn on the audio unit, and make sure you see COdE in the display. If you don't see this message or ERR is displayed, disconnect both battery cables from the battery and touch them together for approximately 1 minute. Then reconnect them to the proper terminal on the battery, positive cable first. Then, go back to step 1.
Turn off the audio unit.
Press and hold the 1 and 6 preset buttons, then turn on the audio unit while continuing to hold the 1 and 6 buttons down. The display may toggle between two screens. The first screen displays a U and the first four digits of the serial number (for example, U2200). The second screen displays an L and the last four digits of the serial number (for example, L0055). Or the display may show SN and eight digits. Write the displayed information down.
Call your Honda/Acura dealership with the serial numbers to get your un-lock code. This code will always be the same for this audio unit so be sure to write it in your Owner's Manual for future use.
